The Hanfugirls Collective seek to re-examine and re-present the authentic Chinese cultural experiences and educational programmes. Focusing on female empowerment, the group's content will focus on female experiences, identity and representation in history, including concepts of Chinese femininity, role and rights of women in ancient China, courtesan narratives and of course, what fashion, make-up and accessories meant for an ancient Chinese woman.

Originally designed as an immersive virtual RPG experience with thousands of interactive paths, this screening will present two possible journeys through the forgotten stories of these remarkable women.Created by Singapore's all-female arts collective, The Hanfugirls, Yanzilou: Forgotten Tales was the world’s first virtual interactive historical dance drama when it premiered in 2021. The production brings to life the rich culture and artistry of a Tang-era entertainment house, showcasing traditional craftsmanship, intricate costumes, and cross-cultural exchange.In this unique screening, you’ll witness a powerful retelling of the lives of courtesans, who were among the most educated yet marginalized women in history.
