Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music

Inspired by the Malay word tenun—meaning “to weave”—this performance celebrates the intricate, multidimensional nature of music across cultures. Tenun symbolises the interweaving of diverse musical traditions coming together to create a unified, harmonious whole.Experience six captivating pieces—two songs and four instrumental works—that blend reinterpretations of traditional folk songs with original Singaporean intercultural compositions. Performed by an eight-piece ensemble of students and professionals, the performance features instruments from various musical cultures, including the pipa, danbau, angklung, rebana, and tabla. Enhanced by a surround sound setup, audience members are invited to walk around the ensemble for an immersive listening experience.This performance reflects a collaborative approach, fostering meaningful cultural exchange that celebrates the diversity in Singapore and the surrounding region.Join us as we explore the beauty of cultural soundscapes woven into a singular, resonant tapestry.
