The Moment @ The Jazz Loft

In June 2022, the iconic Singapore music venue Blu Jaz reopened its live music program with the Jazz Loft, located on the 3rd floor of it’s premises at Bali Lane.The mission of this new space, is to showcase jazz, and improvisation, as an evolving art form, rather than a museum-piece, presenting those artists, both local and international, that are part of the forward motion, and artistic development of the music.

<p>🎶 <strong><strong>Extrapolation Trio</strong></strong></p><p>Extrapolation Trio, initiated by Neill Gautier, brings together three internationally acclaimed musicians — pianist Karst de Jong, drummer Neill Gautier, and cellist Martin Jaggi. The trio thrives on spontaneous interaction, blending improvisation with influences from classical, jazz and contemporary music traditions. Their performances are explorations of sound and dialogue, offering audiences music that is both adventurous and deeply rooted in shared artistry.</p><p><br></p><h2><strong><strong>Karst de Jong — Piano</strong></strong></h2><p>Karst de Jong is a Dutch pianist, improviser, and music theorist. Internationally recognised for his research and work on music theory, improvisation, and collaborative creation, he has 35 years of teaching experience at leading institutions in the Netherlands and Barcelona. Since 2023, he has been a full-time professor at the NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore.</p><p><br></p><h2>Neill Gautier — Drums</h2><p>Neill Gautier is a performer, teacher, and composer driven by a passion for spontaneous composition. The founder of Neill’s Jazz Lab, he is an award-winning drummer and instructor with over 20 years of teaching and performance experience. His travels have taken him across continents, where he explored diverse styles—from jazz and funk to Afro-Cuban and electronic music. In Belgium, he delved into contemporary jazz, while in Cameroon he immersed himself in traditional African music. These experiences enriched his artistry, enabling him to blend influences and transcend genres.</p><p><br></p><h2>Martin Jaggi — Cellist</h2><p>Born in Basel in 1978, Martin Jaggi studied cello and composition in Switzerland and Germany. He co-founded the Mondrian Ensemble and serves as principal cellist of the Basel Sinfonietta. As a composer, he has collaborated with major orchestras and festivals worldwide. Since 2014, he has lived in Singapore, coaching contemporary music at the NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, while continuing to commute between Europe and Asia.</p><p><br></p><h2>Special guest performer - Jovienne Lu</h2><p>Jovienne Lu, a six-year-old pianist and budding composer with a passion for improvisation, obtained ABRSM Piano Performance Grade 8 at the age of five and ABRSM Music Theory Grade 5 with Distinction at the age of four. A winner of many international competitions, she is a regular performer at concerts and charity events and has been invited to appear in celebrated concert halls, including the Musikverein in Vienna.</p><p>Doors will open at 7pm.</p>
