The Substation isSingapore’s pioneering non-profit arts development platformfor independent creative practitioners, founded in 1990 by dramatist & Cultural Medallion recipient, the late Kuo Pao Kun.Our continuing work is made possible by the belief and dedication oflike-minded practitioners and generous supportersfrom individual donors, private foundations, government agencies, corporate sponsors, collaborative partners, and passionate volunteers.Formerly housed in the conservation site of a disused power substation on Armenian Street until the building’s much-needed renovations in 2021, The Substation serves as‘A Home for the Arts’ for countless artists, performers, curators, producers, writers and intellectuals—many of whom continue to shape our creative landscape across a diverse range of disciplines from theatre and performance art to music, literary arts, fine arts, film, design, dance, curation, arts management, and related fields. In various stages of their early careers, at least 100 Artists-in-Residence, 13 Cultural Medallion winners, 10 President’s Young Talents Award winners, 20 Young Artist Award recipients, and Singapore Pavilion artists at the Venice Biennale have previously passed through our doors to develop their work as then emerging artists.Today, The Substation hastransitioned from its past venue hire function and evolved into an arts company focusing on its core ethos: to keep the independent spirit alive and further its founding mission for artist development, critical dialogue, and unexpected discovery in collaborative community—a safe ‘space’ for the alternative and exploratory, for first-starts and re-starts, and for the unknown and untried.The company remains a non-profit registered charity with an Institute of Public Character (IPC) status. <h3>Welcome to Scratch-Easy II!</h3> Following our first Scratch-Easy night in April 2025, played to a full-house at the National Library Building, we're back for an early evening of devising theatre and movement! Join us in this collaborative, work-in-progress presentation by established practitioners and emerging actors in Singapore in an informal setting for experimentation and feedback.Open to theatre audiences and enthusiasts of all ages, Scratch-Easy gives insights into theatre making as the actors share their creative process and devising tools—including narratives, choreography, and other collaborative art forms—through short sketches that explore the notion of "Dreams". <h4>Scratch-Easy II: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow! <h3>About the Co-Presenters</h3> Static MetamorphosisStatic Metamorphosis is a theatre collective that began re-imagining comic strips onto platform theatre. Comics have this amazing ability to take us on a journey through landscapes, narratives and characters all just in a box, and platform theatre has that exact same capacity on just one platform. Formed by <a href="https://www.eugene-chow.com/" title="https://www.eugene-chow.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lecoq-trained actor-director Eugene Chow </a>in 2024, the multi-faceted group of artists is a growing collective that does everything from gestural theatre to dance to sound, bringing their talents onto performance spaces to enhance the theatrical experience of their devised themes.The Substation<a href="https://www.substation.org/" title="https://www.substation.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Substation</a> nurtures independent creative practitioners in collaborative community through the multi-disciplinary curation of contemporary arts practices from theatre and dance to film, music, literary arts, performance art, visual arts, and related fields.
