We invite you to join us to plant trees and enhance the habitat at Lim Chu Kang Nature Park, within the Sungei Buloh Nature Park Network

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (Visitor Centre)

BackgroundThe Lim Chu Kang Nature Park is part of the Sungei Buloh Nature Park Network, which buffers the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve to the west of the Reserve. This complementary wetland habitat will strengthen the conservation of wetland biodiversity of the Reserve and the overall biodiversity in the northwestern part of Singapore.To this end, we are, once again, working closely with the SWBR team at NParks to plant and care for native trees suitable to the area. We invite you to join us in this meaningful exercise.

<h2>Planting will entail</h2><ul><li>Scraping grass off the topsoil</li><li>Digging into, and excavating the exposed soils with a changkul</li><li>Loosening any embedded rocks or items with a chiam(if neccessary)</li><li>Placing the sapling into the prepared grounds</li><li>Covering the sapling base with soil</li><li>Adding mulch (leaf litter and/or wood chips) around the sapling base</li><li>Watering the newly-planted saplings well</li></ul>

<h2>Sapling Protection Action (SPA) will entail</h2><ul><li>Scraping grass back from recently-planted saplings</li><li>Hand-weeding persistent grass sprouts at the base of recently-planted saplings</li><li>Cutting off and clearing any creepers on recently-planted saplings</li><li>Topping up leaf litter and/or approved soil mixture (ASM) around the base of recently-planted saplings</li><li>Helping to stake recently-planted saplings to give them temporary support whilst they strengthen their trunks (where necessary)</li><li>Replacing old, broken or lost tree identification tags (where necessary)</li></ul>

Please take note<ul><li>Individual registration is COMPULSORY</li><li>Participants MUST wear COVERED SHOES; without this, you will not be able to participate.</li><li>We strongly recommend that you bring sunblock, and a hat/cap to help shelter yourself from the sun. Arm sleeves would be useful too.</li><li>Bring at least 1 litre of drinking water - you will need it!</li><li>Have a hearty meal or bring some snacks to munch on and prevent exhaustion</li><li>Apply insect repellent; there are mosquitoes in the area.</li><li>Bring your own gloves, if you have a pair (we will supply otherwise)</li><li>Bring a change of clothes and footwear in case you get drenched or dirty after the muddy activity</li></ul> We will email registered participants further details at least 2 days before the event date.
