SYNOPSISAkar Subur is a Malay dance choreolab that centres process, not just polished works, offering a new developmental pathway for emerging choreographers in Singapore. Designed as a structured laboratory, it guides three choreographers through themed solos, a group presentation, and a final collective improvisation, where, in the moment, each must decide whether to embrace or reject a given prop as part of their choreographic response. This live prop challenge shifts focus from steps to decisionmaking, asking them to articulate intention, negotiate the relationship between body and object, and take real creative risks in front of an audience. Together with the closing ensemble improvisation and freeze, Akar Subur becomes a rare space where Malay dance makers can question, experiment, and grow their choreographic voice within and beyond tradition. SINOPSISAkar Subur ialah sebuah makmal koreografi tari Melayu yang menumpukan perhatian kepada proses, bukan sekadar hasil karya yang sudah sempurna, serta menawarkan laluan pembangunan baharu bagi koreografer muda di Singapura. Makmal berstruktur ini membimbing tiga koreografer melalui solo bertema, persembahan berkelompok, dan satu improvisasi kolektif terakhir di mana, pada saat itu juga, setiap peserta perlu memilih sama ada ingin menerima atau menolak sesuatu prop sebagai sebahagian daripada respons koreografi mereka. Cabaran prop secara langsung ini mengalihkan fokus daripada langkah kepada proses membuat keputusan, mengajak mereka menjelaskan niat, merundingkan hubungan antara tubuh dan objek, serta mengambil risiko kreativiti yang sebenar di hadapan khalayak. Bersama improvisasi ansambel penutup dan “freeze”, Akar Subur menjadi ruang istimewa di mana pengkarya tari Melayu boleh mempersoal, bereksperimen dan mengembangkan suara koreografi mereka dalam dan melampaui tradisi.
