In June 2022, the iconic Singapore music venue Blu Jaz reopened its live music program with the Jazz Loft, located on the 3rd floor of it’s premises at Bali Lane.The mission of this new space, is to showcase jazz, and improvisation, as an evolving art form, rather than a museum-piece, presenting those artists, both local and international, that are part of the forward motion, and artistic development of the music.

A meeting of 2 major forces with Cuban fusion drummer Pablo Calzado, and New York jazz pianist Sharik Hasan in a brand new project

We present an evening of discovery, with two of the most active and original voices in their respective fields, meeting at a point where jazz and Cuban music cross over.The heritage of the fusion of jazz and Cuban music, is already more than a century old. Born of the cultural melting pot of the Caribbean ports, the two styles have been deeply in each other&#x27;s pockets since their respective beginnings.Pablo Calzado and Sharik Hasan, each exemplify the leading edge of their art. Pablo, trained in the demanding music education system of his native city Havana, and then in the ensembles of that vibrant city, including the fusion band of Pablo Melendez, has been forging a career in Singapore as the most versatile and in-demand drummer and bandleader. Sharik left his native India to study jazz in the USA, and seamlessly moved into a pivotal role, not only in the New York jazz scene, but also as lecturer at the iconic Berklee College of Music.They add for this event, Cuban multi instrumentalist Ernesto Enriquez on bass. Ernesto, a long term ally of Pablo&#x27;s is the perfect choice for underpinning the music with the most authentic Latin feel, while being able to respond to the moment in the way jazz demands.The stage is set for an absolutely riveting and inspiring night of music!The Band:Pablo Calzado on drumsErnesto Enriquez on bassSharik Hasan on pianoDoors open at 7.00pmSets at 7.45 and 9.15pmCover charge $22 for both sets
