In June 2022, the iconic Singapore music venue Blu Jaz reopened its live music program with the Jazz Loft, located on the 3rd floor of it’s premises at Bali Lane.The mission of this new space, is to showcase jazz, and improvisation, as an evolving art form, rather than a museum-piece, presenting those artists, both local and international, that are part of the forward motion, and artistic development of the music.

American guitarist Mark Mosley makes a rare appearance in Singapore for a weekend of soulful jazz from a modern jazz guitar master

Mark Mosley was only 11 years old when he first picked up the guitar. That one single act put him on the road of a lifelong musical adventure that would allow him to discover a deep love of many different styles of music. The Blues first lit his soul - particularly the styles of B.B. King, Freddie King and Albert Collins; and then it was jazz that caught his attention! During a high school band trip to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, he became mesmerized after seeing a live performance from Oscar Peterson, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Les McCann, Eddie Harris, and David “Fathead” Newman. This once in a lifetime experience motivated him to learn all he could about this sensational original American art form.Since then he has played with some of the greats of the genre, such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Gary Bartz, Keter Betts,.Seleno Clarke, Onaje Allan Gumbs, Buddy Williams, and.Stanley Banks to name a few. He has also put our some highly regarded albums under his own name.For his weekend at the Jazz Loft, he will be joined by two of the most in-demand jazz musicians of the younger generation, the versatile Fabian Lee on bass, and outstanding Yap Ting Wei: on drums. Mark’s music has always been a driving force in his soul, but this man also gave more than his musical talents to the world. Mosley was an Army paratrooper while stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and also served as a Hurricane Katrina Army National Guard volunteer. Even while focused on his military and educational careers, the Baltimore based Mosley has kept his musical fires burning, and has finally achieved his longtime dream with the highly anticipated release of his second solo CD TLC, whose title is truly indicative of the detailed love and overriding sense of passion he brings to the music on this diverse set of ten infectious originals and emotional new renditions of Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love” and Errol Garner’s jazz standard “Misty.”
