THREE TENORS @ The Jazz Loft

In June 2022, the iconic Singapore music venue Blu Jaz reopened its live music program with the Jazz Loft, located on the 3rd floor of it’s premises at Bali Lane.The mission of this new space, is to showcase jazz, and improvisation, as an evolving art form, rather than a museum-piece, presenting those artists, both local and international, that are part of the forward motion, and artistic development of the music.

A celebration of the tenor saxophone, with three of the most accomplished exponents in Singapore locking horns

We assemble three of the most significant tenor saxophone stylists currently in Singapore for this celebration of one of the instrumental icons of jazz. Swedish saxophonist Johan Liedberg is known for his passionate delivery and robust sound on the instrument. His rare appearances at venues in Singapore are testament to the high standards he demands from himself, and his musical narrative is uncompromising, with that dark Nordic angularity.American EJ Hughes is a much more frequent sighting in the musical jungle. He has however an equally uncompromising stance on his delivery, bold and bluesy, with strong references to the tradition, while possessing an immediately recognisable style of his own.Greg Lyons is well known here for his pursuit of an original musical output, but his foundations on the tenor saxophone lie firmly with the masters of the instrument from the &#x27;60s and &#x27;70s. The lyrical and rhythmic style he has developed over a long and storied career, offer a fresh perspective on the more traditional repertoire.Together this triad of tenors create a remarkable synergy, and balance of colours, stemming from each of their unique perspectives on the same instrument, brought together in mutual respect and passion for pure improvisation, which is only enhanced by an impeccable rhythm section.
