NUS Stage will perform an adaptation of Lao Jiu by Kuo Pao Kun as a play within a play style, weaving original works created by NUS Stage.

With only two weeks to show day, the members still cannot reconcile their differences over the script.Lao Jiu, Kuo Pao Kun’s coming-of-age story about a ninth-born son’s struggle between duty and dreams, has stirred a heated debate amongst the cast. In this unique, meta-theatrical adaptation of Lao Jiu, NUS Stage weaves in original playlets and tackles the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly parts of chasing one’s dreams. <h3>Show &amp; access information</h3>This show may feature loud sounds and strobe lights.The show will be held at NUS University Cultural Centre Theatre. The venue is wheelchair accessible. It is a free seating performance. The group is strongly committed to training actors, nurturing playwrights and grooming production teams who push creative boundaries and produce high quality, artistic content that engages its audiences.Recent productions include End of the Line, and Blackout directed by Chong Tze Chien for the NUS Arts Festival 2023 and 2022 respectively, Shook directed by Sean Tobin for the NUS Arts Festival 2021, Complicité’s A Disappearing Number, for NUS Arts Festival 2019, The Golden Record for NUS Arts Festival 2017: Brave New Worlds, which commemorated the 40th anniversary of the historical launch of the Voyager 1 space probe and The Golden Record 2.0, directed and written by Edith Podesta together with journalist Corrie Tan. Chong Tze ChienA graduate from the NUS theatre studies programme, Tze Chien is the Artistic Director of NUS Stage, a core member of The Finger Players and an award-winning playwright/director. Some of the awards he has won include the Singapore Dramatist Award and The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards. His plays have been staged in Singapore, UK, Budapest, Taiwan and Japan. He has two collections of plays containing critically acclaimed plays such as Charged (The Business Times’ top ten Singapore play of all time) and PIE. For his contributions to Singapore Theatre, he was awarded the Young Artist Award 2006 by Singapore’s National Arts Council. Faith Liu Yong HuayLiu trained at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in Lighting Design (2016), under the National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Postgraduate).
