NAFA School of Music 40th Anniversary Celebration Concert

Established in 1984, the School of Music aims to provide a portfolio of music programmes, which are both relevant to the Singaporean music performance and education scene, and also attractive to talented international students. NAFA is the only education institution in Singapore that offers diploma and degree programmes for both Chinese and Western music instrumentalists; the Bachelor of Music (Honours), Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Instrumental & Vocal Teaching, Master of Composition, and Master of Performance programmes are offered in collaboration with the Royal College of Music, London (RCM) and supported by the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing.Over 300 diploma and degree students are supported by a distinguished international faculty. In addition to weekly public performances on campus, our student soloists, ensembles and orchestra can be heard regularly at performances in Singapore and abroad.

The NAFA School of Music celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a performance by the NAFA Orchestra led by conductor Lin Juan.Experience the contrasts between contemplation and exuberance across various moments of resignation and vivaciousness in Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, characterised by its "unusually colourful" orchestral palette and "overt sentiment" only second to the composer's final symphony as noted by James M. Keller.Opening the concert is Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a work described by Gramophone's Jeremy Nicholas as an "impish masterpiece", featuring NAFA Concerto Competition 2023/2024 Grand Prize Winner Nicole Ng Xin-Yu as piano soloist.
