Tamil theatre in Singapore has been fraught with discussion and debate. What is Tamil theatre? How has it evolved over the years?

Pulling together archival material such as photographs, newspaper articles and oral history interviews, join Librarian Shafie as he explores the journey and experience of Tamil theatre in Singapore from pre-independence to the present.

About the Speaker

Shafie was previously a Metadata Librarian and is now a Librarian at the National Library, Singapore, where he focuses on the Arts and Tamil collections. He has always been curious about the discourse of Tamil arts in Singapore and has a soft spot for theatre.
