Description

You are invited to a special guided tour of two delightful exhibitions at the Asian Civilisation Museum. ACM's curator will share insights to enhance your understanding and appreciation of the displays.

Chinese Ceramics - At the museum's new gallery of Chinese Ceramics, be dazzled by displays that span the entire history of production in China, from the Neolithic agricultural revolution 10,000 years ago to the twilight of the Qing dynasty. See if you can spot the oldest object currently on display at ACM. Of special note is the museum's large selection of delightful figures and other forms from its extensive collection of Dehua porcelain, hailed as one of the finest and most comprehensive in the world. Enjoy the carefully assembled groups of artworks that tell specific stories about Chinese ceramics. Interpretive materials explore how ceramics were made, used and valued throughout Chinese history.

Christianity in Asia - View the world's first exhibition on the history and spread of Christina art in Asia, spanning the 13th to the 20th century. Be enthralled by displays from Singapore, France, Portugal, Italy, Hong Kong and the Philippines, as well as 20 acclaimed institutions and private collections including the Musee du Lourve, the Bibliotheque nationale de France and Lisbon's National Museum of Ancient Art. Complementing these are object from ACM's own rich collection. Examine the different interpretations and adaptations of well-established Christian themes by local artists and artisans who may not be Christians themselves, or were from predominantly non-Christian countries like Syria and Iran. Learn how new motifs, such as the representation of Christ as a good shepherd by India, eventually became familiar mainstays in Asian Christian art.
