About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

It's a full Fritz Coffee Company takeover this September, with a series of events starring the beloved roaster from South Korea. Co-founder and 2014 Korean Barista Champion Park Geunha will be in town for our fireside 'Coffee Chats' series, where he will share what it's like to be in Korea's specialty coffee scene for over 20 years.

Well-recognised by their seal mascot, Fritz Coffee Company is one of the most iconic names in the country's coffee scene — setting standards in the industry since their establishment in 2014. Park started Fritz with five like-minded individuals who are passionate about coffee and community, with a cafe located in Seoul’s Mapo district, quaintly operating out of a refurbished hanok, a traditional Korean house. Today, he oversees the entire operations of the company, and travels to coffee-producing regions in Central America and Africa to source green coffee beans.

This key event in our September MCC Meetup will see Park sharing about his early days in the coffee industry and how it led to the start of Fritz Coffee Company; their sourcing philosophies, stories, and origins behind some of their famous house-roasted coffees; as well as his seasoned take on the specialty coffee scene in Korea.

In this edition of Coffee Chats, Park Geunha will discuss:

  • How Fritz Coffee Company started
  • His first experiences in the coffee industry
  • On coffee — his philosophy and sourcing green beans for house roasts
  • What it takes to be a barista champion
  • Korea’s unique specialty coffee scene

In the meantime, you'll be one of the first to shop exclusive Fritz Coffee Company merchandise, which we will be bringing in to commemorate the special weekend. Expect their iconic seal mascot in all forms, be it on glassware and mugs, or enamel pins and socks. A selection of drip bags and single-origin coffee beans will be available too, alongside some of our bestselling Fritz coffee capsules.

There is a nominal registration fee of $5 per attendee, which can subsequently be redeemed as store credits to shop onsite. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided for this session.

About Park Geunha (@geunha_park)

Park Geunha began his coffee career in 2001 as a part-time barista at a cafe, a chance foray that marked the beginning of his over 20 years of experience in South Korea's coffee industry. As co-founder of Fritz Coffee Company, a specialty coffee brand he started with like-minded individuals, he currently oversees the entire operations of the company, and travels to coffee-producing regions in Central America and Africa to source green coffee beans.

The coffee expert certainly has an extensive track record in the world of specialty coffee as well. His early days saw him in roles including barista trainer and roaster, while he was also responsible for opening several cafes within a franchise company. He then went on to compete in national barista competitions, placing 3rd in 2013, and later on clinching the title of 2014 Korean Barista Champion; that year, he represented Korea in the World Barista Championship, placing 14th globally.
