About the Programme
The Hex and Counters Wargamers Singapore group LearnX Community will be having sessions at Ang Mo Kio Public Library to introduce the world of tabletop wargaming. We will be showcasing the games that we played and invite the public to join our session as we explore the "What if" situation in the game.
What is Tabletop wargaming?
Tabletop wargaming has a long history that has a great relationship with tabletop role-playing games and board games. Started out as a way to simulate military training, tabletop wargames slowly advanced into a complex hobby where players are encouraged to engage in a battle of wits for control of the board, debates on the political/social decisions of that time and explore the web of intrigue reactions/outcomes that, you the player, have made during the game.
The games we play range from:
- Ancient times like Roman or Greeks, exploring the political drama of being a leader in a time of intrigue and power.
- Games like: GMT: Commands & Colors: Ancients. GMT: Time of Crisis.
- Medieval times like King Richard I: The Lionheart or Sultan Saladin. Experience the social decisions made during the era of religious discourse.
- Games like: GMT: Blood & Roses. GMT: Plantagenet: Cousins’ War for England, 1459 - 1485.
- Napoleonic Wars: The most famous era for Historical reenactors and Wargamers alike. Relive the dramatic times of epic armies clashing in the first "world war".
- Games like: Risks: The Board Game. Black Powder: The Miniature Wargame. War and Peace: the Board Game.
- World War 1&2: The wars that defined our generations. Famous commanders and their battles are forever etched in our mind.
- Games like: Advanced Squad Leader. Stuka Leader. Panzer Leader. Bolt Action: Miniature Skirmish Game. RAF - The Battle of Britain, 1940.
Who are the Hex and Counter Wargamers Singapore?
We are a small group of historical nerds who got together, at our own homes or community centres, to run long sessions. Many of us are from different backgrounds and ages, yet we considered each other as part of our family. We seek to cultivate an interest in history, not only ours but the world itself.
