Nanyang Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra (NYPCO) was formed in September 1996 with a pioneer batch of 45 members. Today, it boasts 100 members from NYP’s six schools. Under the baton of resident conductor, Mr Mike Chiang, NYPCO has been presenting music that is not typical for an orchestra comprising of Chinese traditional instruments.
Compromised of both full-time students as well as alumni members who regularly return to practice and perform. For the past 20 years, the orchestra has performed a wide variety of music genres : from unique and modern spins on traditional Chinese music to new interpretation of western classical pieces, and even pieces from popular games!
Last year, we presented a concert that showcases the past 20 years of playing pop. This year, we return to our roots to explore and introduce the myraid of different sounds that Chinese orchestra instruments can produce while showcasing NYPCO's journey through different genres. Going off of this, we are proud to present this years concert: 《古韵新风》Journey Through Time!
