THE ILLUSTRIOUS BLACKS (NYC)

The Illustrious Blacks are not of this Earth. The genre-bending, time-warping duo of Manchildblack and Monstah Black have been shaking up the club cosmos with a sound that fuses Afro-electro, house, techno, disco, and psychedelic funk into an otherworldly forcefield of rhythm and rebellion. From NYC’s underground to the world’s most iconic venues, their performances transcend mere DJ sets, blending music, dance, theatre, and avant-garde fashion into a full-blown intergalactic experience.

With roots in NYC’s thriving queer nightlife, The Illustrious Blacks have become global dancefloor icons, headlining legendary spaces like Hi Ibiza’s Glitterbox, the Sydney Opera House, Ministry of Sound, and Brooklyn’s Output. Their festival appearances read like a rave voyager’s bucket list, with slots at Roskilde, Splore, Milkshake, and Central Park Summerstage. Their high-energy DJ set for Okayplayer’s Facebook Live went viral, propelling them into the global spotlight as a duo that doesn’t just command the dancefloor—they reinvent it.

Musically, The Illustrious Blacks are cosmic architects, blending the ancestral pulse of house and techno with the futuristic spirit of Afro-funk and club futurism. Their debut EP "NeoAfroFuturisticPsychedelicSurrealisticHippy" set the tone for their sonic universe, with tracks like "Blast Off," "Red Light," and "Black Like Jesus" becoming instant queer anthems. Collaborations with Nickodemus, Osunlade, and remixes by Luke Solomon and Russell Small cemented their reputation as producers with a sound that moves bodies and minds alike.

Their work has been praised in Billboard, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Paper Magazine, Out, and Vice News, and their music videos have been celebrated for their boundary-breaking visual storytelling. They have created commissioned performances for The Shed’s inaugural Open Call in NYC, expanding their artistry beyond the club into the realms of theatre and immersive live experiences.

For Miss Homo, The Illustrious Blacks are taking a deep-space detour into the outer realms of techno. Their usual intergalactic funk is shifting into hypnotic, late-night raver mode, blending their signature futuristic energy with pulsing basslines, relentless grooves, and a cybernetic queer spirit that will have you lost in the void.

The Illustrious Blacks bend reality, warp time, and take the dancefloor to another dimension.

Welcome to their universe.
