About the programme

Entangling Materials between Craft & Design" is a sharing session where Genevieve Ang and Clement Zheng engage in a mutual interview, exploring how their practices intertwine in the creation of Reciproco, a pair of interactive ceramic wares set to be showcased at the Asian Civilisations Museum during Singapore Design Week 2024. Embracing the spirit of reciprocity, the session invites attendees to join the conversation, reflecting on alternative ways of communicating and moments of reciprocity in our daily lives.

About the speaker

Clement Zheng is a design technologist. His work investigates computational design, tangible interactions, and making cultures. He is particularly interested in exploring alternative material approaches for designing interactive systems. His research findings are often presented in the form of new tools and approaches for building tangible interactions. Clement is currently teaching and researching in the Division of Industrial Design at the National University of Singapore. He leads the Interactive Materials Lab and holds a joint appointment with Keio-NUS CUTE Center.

Genevieve Ang is an artist and designer intrigued by the invisible architecture underpinning material culture and its systems. She primarily explores clay, delving into the material’s diverse uses and intricate processes through research, craft, and design. Genevieve’s work has been showcased at art and design events, including Future Impacts during Milan Design Week, SEA Focus at Singapore Art Week, and Art Jakarta. She is the Principal Designer at Gin&G, a multidisciplinary design firm based in Singapore.
