About the Programme/Event

Learning has no limits! In this session, be blown away by two unique initiatives conducted in Hong Kong that find seniors returning to schools as participants in the classroom or as volunteers who contribute their knowledge and wisdom.
 
Segment 1 by Ms Janice Chan
Understand how volunteerism raised the self-worth of seniors, strengthened the ties they have with their families, and improved public perception towards older individuals.
 
Segment 2 by Dr Florence Fong
Discover how a structured co-learning programme enhanced the psychological well-being of seniors and helped preschool children develop stronger social skills.

About the Speakers

Dr Florence Fong is Deputy Director and Senior Lecturer with the Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies at Lingnan University. As a seasoned social sciences researcher with more than 20 years of experience, Dr Fong has made significant contributions to the Hong Kong government and Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. Her research has been instrumental in shaping public policy and enhancing service delivery, especially when it comes to intergenerational programmes. Today, Dr Fong continues her research in areas like caregiver support, gerontechnology, and strategies for seniors to age in place.

Ms Janice Chan Sze Man is a Senior Service Coordinator at the Integrated Community Support Services for the Elderly in HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre. By tapping on her 25 years of experience in the eldercare industry and a passion for intergenerational programmes, Ms Chan has set up an intergenerational co-creation centre to promote intergenerational solidarity. In 2024, she received the Active Ageing Empowerment Programme — Innovation of the Year award at the Eldercare Innovation Awards.

Dr Swapna Dayanandan holds a PhD in Gerontology and is currently founder and CEO of Joy in Living Aged Care Services, a company providing gerontechnology and innovative eldercare solutions to support the ageing communities in Singapore and globally. She also heads the Smart Healthcare Workgroup of Smart Cities Network and is involved in several smart healthcare projects in Southeast Asia. Dr Dayanandan was Past President of Sree Narayana Mission (Singapore), a leading provider of eldercare services in Singapore. She continues to serve on the Board. Dr Dayanandan has received two National Day Awards: The Commendation Medal in 2018 and the Long Service Medal in 2021.
