Southeast Asia Artistic Freedom RADAR is the first-of-its-kind research and documentation resource for challenges to artistic and cultural freedom in the region. It is a research project by ArtsEquator that aims to centralise information about attacks on freedom of expression of arts and culture in Southeast Asia, into a fully searchable database. It identifies recurring patterns and common features in the ways that arts and culture are challenged or censored in Southeast Asia. Using the data collected, we also produce visual data, articles, podcasts and other content which will be shared with artists, rights groups and the public.
The Pilot, launched in 2022, was known as the SEA Arts Censorship Database. Phase 2, renamed as the Southeast Asia Artistic Freedom RADAR, involves documentation of violations of artistic and cultural freedom in six countries–Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Philippines.
Join us this May at De La Salle University as we share the findings from our research covering 2023 & 2024 and find out more about Southeast Asia Artistic Freedom RADAR!
