Speaker 1 - Mr Jack Sim, Deputy Director BoH Hub / World Toilet Organisation (WTO)

Jack Sim (simplified Chinese: 沈锐华; traditional Chinese: 沈銳華; pinyin: Shěn Ruìhuá, born 1957) is the founder of the Restroom Association of Singapore, the World Toilet Organization, the World Toilet Day initiative and Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) Hub. Formerly from the construction industry, he decided to devote the rest of his life to social work after attaining financial independence at the age of 40.

In 2001, for “creating goodwill and bringing the subject into the open” and “mobilizing national support in providing on-the-ground expertise” he received the Schwab Foundation award for Social Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2007, Jack was elected a Fellow of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, and also became one of the key members to convene the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance which is composed of key players in the sanitation space.

Jack was named one of the Heroes of the Environment for 2008 by Time magazine. He also founded the BOP HUB and a series of social businesses and startups. He is now constructing a 65,000 sq ft World Trade Center for the Poor in Singapore to coordinate an effort to transform the 4 billion poor into a massively efficient marketplace to end global poverty.

Speaker 2 - Mr Ong Gin Keat, Director of Envcares Pte Ltd

Envcares is a Singapore SME well experienced in the large-scale valorization of pre-consumer side streams.

It has an 8,000m2 facility with 5,000m2 of covered space. It is licensed by NEA and SFA as an approved animal feed manufacturer. Envcares valorizes solid and liquid organic side streams into useful products including organic compost, thereby adding value to these materials.

Envcares has an average non domestic recycling rate of 80%, well above the national recycling rate.

Employing less than a dozen workshop staff, Envcares processes over 300tonnes/day of side streams and is approved to handle up to 500t/day of discarded materials.

In 2023, for its leading work in reducing and valorizing wastes, Envcares was awarded “Distinction” in the Business for Good category.

At the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards 2024 on 21st August 2024, Envcares

received a Certificate of Environmental Commitment recognising Envcares dedication and

consistency in its environmental and sustainability work.

Envcares is proof that there is Waste but its not Wasted. Massively Regenerating Resources.

Speaker 3 - Dr Adrian Ang, Director of Chye Thiam Maintenance Pte Ltd

Dr. Adrian Ang was among the inaugural recipients of the NU-POLY-SIT PhD Scholarship in 2013, which allowed him to pursue his doctorate at Newcastle University, UK.

He currently serves as the Director of Corporate Development & New Businesses at CTM Group, where he leads efforts to expand the company's market share and develop new service segments. In this role, he supports the CEO in shaping the Group’s strategy and oversees strategic investments, government relations, corporate communications, new business initiatives, the Centre of Excellence (COE), and business development, including sales and marketing.

Before joining CTM Group, Dr. Adrian led the Integrative Built Environment Centre at Temasek Polytechnic (TP), Singapore. He lectured in the Specialist Diploma program at TP and was an Associate Faculty member at Newcastle University, where he taught Energy Storage in the MSc Energy and Sustainability program. He also served as a trainer for the National Environment Agency's (NEA) regulatory course at TP, titled "Refrigerant Handling for Technicians."

Dr. Adrian has been appointed by NEA to the Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) examination and panel board and serves as the Deputy Chair of the Sustainability Sector Committee for the IES Chartered Engineering Board. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and a Certified Project Manager, and he currently sits on the Board of Directors for CTM Waste Resources and SmartClean Technologies.

In 2019, Dr. Adrian was awarded the Public Service Medal by Mdm Halimah Yacob, President of Singapore, in recognition of his significant contributions to community and public service.

Speaker 4 - Deputy Director (Technology Development) of Singapore Polytechnic

Mr Goh Say Seng, with a team of over 40 academics, drives technology development in collaboration with industries and research institutions, in areas from Power & Sustainable Energy, Autonomous & Transportation Systems, Robotics & Automation to Semiconductor. He helps to raise the collective domain skills of the School, especially in key or emerging areas and translating trends in these areas to curriculum. He has held key responsibilities in course management, which included Course Chair and Timetabling Chair. He was also competition coach for World Skills Competition (IT – PC & Network Support) and International Standards Olympiad, leading his students to win top awards internationally. His current research interest is in Machine Learning for Automatic Car Number Plate Recognition.

Panel Discussion with Moderator - Sumathy Krishna from Sustain Path

Sustainpath aims to be an Ecosystem level player, working with different target audience groups to inspire and initiate action on sustainability.
