Description

The successful World Press Photo (WPP) exhibition in Singapore which drew some 20,000

visitors last year, will be held at the Raffles Hotel from Jan 10 to Feb 1, 2015.

Singapore Press Club has arranged for guided tours of the exhibition for members on

Saturday Jan 17. You can choose to attend the tour from 9.30am to 10.30am or

a later one from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The 151 award-winning shots, that captured the most powerful, moving and sometimes

disturbing images of the year from around the world, were selected from 98,671 entries

submitted to the contest by 5,754 photographers from 132 different nationalities. The

shortlisted photos are presented in a year-long exhibition which tours more than 100 cities

in over 45 countries. The annual exhibition, started in 1955 and billed as the "Oscars" of

photojournalism, has come to Singapore just twice - in 2002 and 2006 before returning last

year. From 2015, The Straits Times is the presenter of the WPP Singapore exhibition for three years.

Workshops and talks

As part of the exhibition, there are outreach programmes for the public and students, as well

as talks and workshops for photography enthusiasts by three award-winning photographers

- Bill Frakes (four-time WPP winner), Robin Hammond and Julius Schrank. Beijing-based

Singaporean photographer and member of the WPP 2015 Sports Jury, How Hwee Young,

will join the three on a panel discussion on 10 January.
